Keep the Motivation Burning Within
Written By: Brian Berthod
The reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.
Motivation is like a fire, when it is burning hot will consume any obstacle. When the fire is out, discouragement sets in, turning every challenge into an impossible feat. So how can we keep the fire lit?
What is the answer to get the fire started? First, accept the truth you are discouraged. Without judgement acknowledge the storm surrounding your life. Next is finding that source of fire. This is different for everyone but the common thread is that it is simple. Taking that single step away from the darkness. A bonfire was once a single match with potential.
Easier said than done. Set small goals that align with a larger one. This is called segmenting goals. It's like tossing a large log onto a fire that isn't hot enough to consume it. It is wiser to start the fire with small logs that will eventually generate enough heat to support the loftier goals. An example would be when running a marathon. It would be detrimental to fixate your vision on the finish line, rather set your sights to the next check point or the next water station, and before you know it, the next check point will be the finish line.
After the Summit.
After you have climbed your Mt Everest, what's next? This is a pivotal time in your life. It is easy to relish in your accomplishment and slowly slip into a discouraged state if being. The next summit awaits. Use the lessons learned on previous adventures to sharpen your edge and begin anew.
Discouragement is made worse by judgment. Set small goals that align with larger ones. Build upon past experiences. We are all works in progress.
